Best Practices for Safe Online Banking

Warren-Boynton State Bank takes the security of your confidential information seriously. Although we deploy a wide array of processes and security architecture, you can strengthen this process further by adhering to the following best practices.

Protect Sensitive Information

  • NEVER share banking information or login credentials with someone by phone, text, or email (even when told it is someone from the bank).  This includes Username, Password, Security Question Answers, and Out of Band Authentication Codes.
  • Use "strong" passwords (Minimum eight digits with alpha, numeric and symbol characters)
  • Log out of online banking when finished.
  • Never send confidential information over public Wi-Fi connections.

Protect Debit/Credit Cards

  • Use debit/credit card chip instead of swiping when possible.
  • Store debit and credit cards in a place that isn't susceptible to theft.

Monitor Accounts Closely

  • Set up account alerts, specifically security alerts, to verify and monitor account activity.
  • Access accounts and review all communications shared by the bank on a regular basis.

Be on the Lookout for Common Fraud Schemes

  • "Too good to be true" deals are most often just that and usually a scam.
  • Beware of fraudsters who play on your emotions to acquire personal and financial information.
  • Never respond to phone calls or texts that you did not initiate when asked for banking information or login credentials.
  • Don't assume a call from the bank's phone number is legitimate.  Fraudsters can spoof caller ID to appear as someone from the bank.  If you receive a call from the bank asking for sensitive information, do NOT provide answers.  Hang up and call the bank back directly.''
